HMS Senior Named Winner Of KIWA Scholarship

Sheldon, Iowa — A high school senior from Sanborn has been named the winner of a $1500 scholarship from KIWA Radio.

Samuel Heyn tells us a little about himself.

(as said) “I was born in Sheldon, Iowa… raised in Sanborn, Iowa my whole life. Currently, I’m a senior at Hartley Melvin Sanborn High School in Hartley, Iowa. For free time, I like to enjoy time with my friends and like to go on my phone a lot like most teenagers. And sometimes I really like to play sports as well.”

And those interests — tech and sports — are two of the things that point toward Heyn’s future plans.

(as said) “I plan to attend the University of Iowa to major in journalism and mass communications and I plan to minor in statistics.”

That degree should help Heyn in his career aspirations. He says his goal is to be a sports broadcaster for a news network. He tells us his primary focus at this point is the mega sports powerhouse — ESPN.

We asked Heyn how he felt when he got the news that he would be the recipient of KIWA’s $1500 scholarship.

(as said) “I was actually very excited. I woke up this morning to my phone vibrating right next to my pillow and next thing, you know, I open it and it’s from Sheldon and I open it and there it is. The guy says I want $1,500. I was so excited I jumped out of bed.”

Heyn says he’s grateful for the scholarship.

(as said) “I’m thankful for this opportunity.”

Heyn has been a four-sport athlete all through high school and has maintained a 3.99 grade point average. KIWA wants to wish Heyn and everyone who applied for the scholarship good luck in their future plans.
