Hospers, Iowa– A garage and some wood was damaged in a fire on Friday, November 11, 2016 near Hospers.
According to Hospers Fire Chief Jason Overmole, about 2:55 p.m., the Hospers Fire Department was called to the report of garage fire at 4541 400th Street, just east of Hospers on B40.
The chief says the fire department saw a detached garage across from the house on fire as they approached the scene. He says one of the eaves was on fire in the corner of the garage, and a pile of lumber and branches stacked near garage was on fire as well.
Overmole says no injuries were reported.
He says there was a burn barrel in the vicinity, and he thinks sparks from the barrel may have started the wood on fire, which started the garage on fire.
Chief Overmole reports that they were able to put out the fire before it caused major damage.
He says they used 1,200 gallons of water to fight the fire, and crews were on scene about an hour.
