Sheldon, Iowa — Well, it’s happening again….scammers doing their level best to obtain financial information from unsuspecting northwest Iowans.
Sheldon Police Chief Scott Burtch tells KIWA that his department has fielded multiple calls from citizens to report that they have received phone calls from people who say they are with the Social Security Administration, attempting to get the intended victim’s bank account information.
Chief Burtch reminds you to NEVER give out any personal or financial information over the phone to an unsolicited caller. And he says government agencies NEVER ask to be paid over the phone for a warrant.
Even the Chief of Police isn’t immune from receiving this type of call, as Burtch says one of these callers left a voicemail on his work phone.
He says the calls all seem to be coming from a Texas phone number.
