Primghar, Iowa — Many fairs, festivals, celebrations, and the like have had to be cancelled or postponed so far this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But we want to tell you about one community celebration that IS going on later this month.
The Primghar Chamber of Commerce has announced that their annual Cobblestone Days WILL be held the weekend of June 19th in Primghar.
Nicole Logan is one of the organizers, and she tells us how they arrived at the decision to hold Cobblestone Days this year.
(As above) “We talked to several people in the community about what they wanted us to do, and when it came down to it, the town of Primghar, the community, everything, they’re ready to get out and start living their lives again. And with the events that we have planned everything is outside, you can social distance yourself. You don’t have to stand on top of each other, and we just want everyone to be able to kind of kick off summer with a bang.”
Logan says to allow for more social distancing, this year’s celebration is being moved to a new location.
(As above) “Well, typically we have everything up to the square, which, in Primghar the square is a pretty big area. But this year we decided to move everything to the city park, so every event will have its own area designated for that particular thing. So the car show has a big area, the bags tournament will have its own area, the vendors….. we are gonna have vendors available and again, they can have their own precautions put in place as well. Everything is going to be kind of segregated to it’s own area. And we’re also gonna get hand sanitizer, things like that put up so everyone will be safe. If they want to come out and join us they can, but if they don’t feel like it’s safe for them then we completely understand that, and we look forward to seeing them next year.”
She says the feedback they’ve gotten from the community has been overwhelmingly positive.
(As above) “We’ve had a lot of positive feedback on having Cobblestone Days, and a lot of people were so excited that we decided to move forward with it. And they’re really excited to kick off summer, and not let all of everything that’s going on in the rest of the world kind of damper Cobblestone Days.”
Logan says Cobblestone Days will be held Friday and Saturday, June 19th and 20th, at the Primghar city park.
(As above) “Cobblestone days is gonna start June 19th with a volleyball tournament, and it’ll be all day on June 20th, starting with the parade and then ending with a live band.”
She tells us that all Cobblestone Days festivities will be held at the Primghar city park, except for the Saturday night band. That performance will be held at the new band-shell at the O’Brien County Fairgrounds. Logan extends an invitation to all to attend Cobblestone Days and enjoy yourself.
