Rural Sioux City, Iowa — A Sioux City man is dead as the apparent victim in an ATV versus tree accident.
The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office says their communications center received a 911 call from a man who said he had discovered an individual who apparently struck a tree with an ATV.
Plymouth County Deputies along with the Hinton Ambulance were dispatched to the location which was about a mile and a half north of the Sioux City city limits and a half mile west of K22 or Perry Creek Road. They found a male subject deceased and an ATV a short distance away.
Deputies believe that the driver of the ATV, 24-year-old Carlton Smith, Jr of Sioux City, was traveling south through a grassy area on private property, when he struck a tree. Smith was thrown from the ATV and was discovered by a family member.
The Plymouth County Medical Examiner found that the death was a result of head trauma.
