Lyon County Businesses Receive Accolades

Rock Rapids, Iowa — Several Lyon County businesses and one community event have received accolades at a ceremony this week in Rock Rapids.

Lyon County Economic Development Director Steve Simons tells us how the Lyon County Economic Development Advisory Board’s Business Recognition program got started, six years ago.

He tells us what they hope to accomplish.

Advisory board members nominate businesses, and after research, the board votes on what businesses should receive the awards.

This year, in the Retail-Commercial Business Builder category, Total Stop Food Store in George was the winner. The Alvord 125th Celebration was the winner in the Community Event category. In Production Agriculture, Mogler Farms and Pig Hill of Alvord was the winner. Rosie’s Boutique in Rock Rapids won the Celebrating Women in Business category. The Business Builder was Richarz Repair of Larchwood. In the Restaurant and Dining category, Fiesta Brava Mexican Restaurant of Rock Rapids was the winner. And taking home the Entrepreneurial Spirit award was Simply Said and Sincere Surroundings of Rock Rapids.

Simons says they also talk about what’s happening in economic development in the county, and give those attending a chance to network, discuss what’s worked for them, and find out what others are doing.
