Lyon County Providing Option To Get Messages From Sheriff’s Office, EMA

Rock Rapids, Iowa — The citizens of Lyon County can now be better connected to what is going on at the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and things that they need to know.

According to Lyon County Sheriff Brian Hilt, the county is utilizing a system based on a Motorola solution.

He tells us how the messages get into the system.

He says the dispatchers can also send out messages.

Hilt says people can sign up online, or by sending the text message “LyonIA” from your phone to 672-83.

He says most people have signed up by sending a text message. According to Sheriff Hilt, most people choose to receive their alerts via text message. But that’s not the only way to receive alerts.

You can go to alert.iowa.gov or to the Lyon County Sheriff Facebook page and search for “Sign Up For Lyon County Alerts”.

We’ll have more information from Sheriff Hilt in future newscasts.
