Man Goes To Jail On Misdemeanor Charge, Gets Felony Added

Primghar, Iowa — A Sheldon man who was taken to jail Monday (July 31st) on a misdemeanor charge was charged with a felony while being booked into the jail.

O’Brien County Jail records indicate that 35-year old Hunter Penkwitz of Sheldon was arrested Monday by a Sheldon Police Officer for allegedly driving with a suspended license, and taken to the O’Brien County Jail at Primghar.  Jail officials say that during the booking process jailers discovered that Penkwitz was in possession of marijuana.  As a result, he was hit with the additional charge of Possession of Contraband in a Correctional Facility.

Possession of Contraband in a Correctional Facility is a Class “D” Felony, and if convicted, Penkwitz could face up to 5-years in prison.
