Manure Applicator Certification Coming Up

Orange City, Iowa — If you are a farmer that applies dry or solid manure, there are workshops coming up in northwest Iowa to help you meet requirements.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in cooperation with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, is offering manure applicator certification workshops for dry/solid manure operators on five different dates and locations across the state this month. These workshops meet manure applicator certification requirements for both confinement site manure applicators and commercial manure applicators who primarily apply dry or solid manure.

Dan Andersen, associate professor and extension agricultural engineering specialist at Iowa State University tells us that the information in this workshop will benefit not only those needing certification but anyone using dry or solid sources of manure as a nutrient resource.

The workshops are free to attend and open to all. Applicators will be required to submit certification forms and fees to the Iowa DNR to meet manure applicator certification requirements.

The workshops closest to us are the ones in Orange City and Storm Lake. The Orange City workshop will be at the extension office downtown on Tuesday, February 19th. You can call 712-737-4230 to register. The one in Storm Lake will be on Tuesday, February 26th, at the AEA office. You can call 712-732-5056 to register for that workshop. All the workshops start at 1:00 p.m.

Other locations include Washington County on February 11th, Greenfield on February 18th, and Kamrar on February 22nd.
