Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council met last week they heard a presentation by Katricia Meendering on the status of the Crossroads Pavilion Event Center.
Meendering reported that in 2018, which was the first full year of the event center operation, they had 117 events. In 2019 the number of events had increased to 154 events, including 35 weddings, 15 events hosted by the event center, and 79 corporate and/or social events. There were 24 “complimentary” events where the venue was used by the Sheldon School District, the SCDC or the City. The events hosted by the center included an inaugural bridal expo attended by 59 brides and 250 guests, even though it was held on the same day as a bridal event in Sioux City.
Meendering also noted that more and more people are coming from a distance to the Pavilion for their events. She said people like the location near the highway intersection, the view, the multiple break-out spaces for meetings and the fact that it is near a hotel, convenience store, and other services. She said the Sheldon Regional Airport is also a factor in groups making a decision to have their meetings in Sheldon. She also mentioned that at least 73 events have been booked for this year and several are already scheduled for 2021.
As for how the Crossroads Pavilion performed financially over the past year, Meendering says she should have the December information soon to put a final number to those calculations.
