NCC To Hold Inaugural Thunder Road Race THIS Saturday

Sheldon, Iowa — The inaugural NCC Thunder Road Race is coming up on Saturday, October 27th, with the race start time at 8 AM. The race is sponsored by KIWA Radio.

We talked to Northwest Iowa Community College Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center Coordinator Greta Giese, who told us how the idea for the road race came about.

She says it’s to raise money for student scholarships. They thought, what better way to do a fundraising opportunity than a fun event for the entire community.

Giese gives us some of the particulars about the road race.

She says that there will be a 1-mile walk, a 5k walk/run and a 10k run. She says there’s something for everyone and you don’t have to be an avid runner.

Giese says it’s good for your heart and good for NCC students, but they’ve also got a lot of fun planned.

She says there will be a costume contest. Prizes will be awarded in three areas. There’s also a pre-race yoga session with NCC personal trainers.

She says you can register at, and search for NCC Thunder Road Race, or you can register via the NCC web site, or you can register in person at the Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center. A long-sleeve t-shirt is part of the registration fee, and refreshments will be available.

For more information, you can call Northwest Iowa Community College or visit their web site, listed above.
