Doon, Iowa — The Doon Volunteer Fire Department and Doon Rescue Crew will soon be using a new facility, thanks to donations and a grant from the Lyon County Riverboat Foundation.
We had a chance to talk to Doon Fire Department Secretary Larry Boeve. He tells us about the funding.
He says some funding also came from area residents throughout the years.
He says the total estimated cost of the facility was nearly $413,000. He says the old facility just wasn’t meeting their needs anymore.
Boeve says with the bigger equipment, responders almost didn’t have enough room to put on their bunker gear in the old facility.
He says an open house is planned for later this month.
He says grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, beverages and chips will be served. When we spoke to Boeve, the date of the open house was yet to be determined. The new safety complex is in the northwest corner of Doon, along K42.
