Part Of Highway 75 So Bad In Sioux Center It Will Be Repaired Before It Is Replaced

Sioux Center, Iowa — In the next few years, Highway 75 is going to be completely redone through Sioux Center. But the Iowa Department of Transportation has decided that part of it is SO full of potholes and cracks, that it needs to be repaired BEFORE it is replaced.

City officials tell us the highway north of 8th Street in Sioux Center is set to receive some emergency repairs to address the winter impact.

In addition to the reconstruction project, the Iowa DOT is now planning a repair project for areas from 8th Street South to 15th Street North that would involve milling and resurfacing some of the pavement. They say the recent winter created significant potholes and cracks in the aging road surface.

City officials tell us the emergency repair project for Sioux Center will be bid on next week and work will begin later in the spring.

They tell us the larger reconstruction project is set to be completed in phases from 20th Street South to 12th Street North over the next three years: 2023-25. This 2.5-mile project is designed to replace aging pavement and rebuild the highway in a safety-based design with two lanes of travel in each direction and center turn lanes and medians. This is a shared project between the DOT and the City of Sioux Center.

Sioux Center’s City Manager, Scott Wynja, says phase one of this two-year project will begin this spring and will reconstruct from 20th Street South (by Pizza Hut) to 13th Street South (by Wal-Mart).

The DOT emergency repair project addresses the area north of this phase, which will be fully reconstructed in 2024-25.
