Paullina, Iowa — The Paullina Fire Department put out a grass fire on Wednesday, July 5th, 2017 northwest of Paullina.
According to Paullina Fire Chief Brent Nooteboom, about 1:45 PM, the fire department was called to the report of a waterway fire about two and a half miles west and a mile north of Paullina.
The chief says the fire department saw the waterway on fire as they approached the scene. He says the farmer had been burning cornstalks and actually had water on hand to stop the fire from getting out of control, but ran out of water and had to call the fire department.
Nooteboom says no injuries were reported, and damage was limited to grass in the waterway and fenceline.
He says they used about 800 gallons of water to fight the fire, and crews were on scene for about 15 minutes.
