Railroad Crossing Replacement To Cause Highway 18/71 Detour In Spencer Next Week

Spencer, Iowa — A railroad crossing replacement on U.S. 18/71 in Spencer will require detouring U.S. 18/71 traffic beginning on Monday, May 16 until May 24, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 3 office.

Transportation Planner Dakin Schultz says traffic will be detoured using Clay County roads M-50 and B-19.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
