Northwest Iowa — A storm system that passed through the KIWA listening area overnight, prompted Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for Lyon and Osceola counties.
Despite report of inch-and-a-half diameter hail at some locations in South Dakota, and a 58-mph reported wind gust at Spencer, the storms produced some heavy rains and winds in Lyon and Osceola counties, but no immediate reports of hail, or any serious damage.
In Lyon County, precipitation reports showed more than a half inch of rainfall. Rock Rapids reported 66-hundredths of an inch of rain with the passsing of the storm, with George reporting a little more, at 76-hundredths.
In Osceola County, Sheriff’s officials tell us they received 7-tenths of an inch of rain in the storm, with no reports of wind or hail damage.
Just a few miles south, here in Sheldon, we received only 6-hundredths of an inch of rain.
