Rock Rapids Man Sentenced To Ten-Year Prison Term

Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Rock Rapids man has been sentenced to a ten-year prison sentence for sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl.

According to the Lyon County Attorney’s Office, 43-year-old Christopher Denny Ehrig of Rock Rapids was sentenced to prison for the crime of Third Degree Sexual Abuse, a Class C Felony, in Lyon County District Court.

The charge stemmed from a complaint filed in January 2017, which alleged sexual contact between Ehrig and a 15-year-old girl in 2016.

Ehrig was placed in the custody of the Iowa Department of Corrections for an indeterminate term of incarceration not to exceed ten years. He had been incarcerated at the Lyon County Jail since his arrest in January and was given credit for the time already served at the county jail. Prior to sentencing, he had served 180 days in jail.

In addition to the imposed prison sentence, Ehrig will be required to register as a sex offender when he is released from prison and must register for the remainder of his life. As a sex offender, Ehrig will be subject to a lifetime special sentence or life time parole and will be subject to monitoring by the Department of Corrections. The Court also ordered to Ehrig to pay a civil penalty for sex offender registration of $250, sexual abuse surcharge of $100, $48.40 in restitution, court-appointed attorney fees, and court costs.
