Rock Valley Mayor Running For Iowa House

Rock Valley, Iowa — Rock Valley’s mayor has thrown his hat in the ring again for Iowa House District 4.

This is the second time that Mayor Kevin Van Otterloo has run for the Republican nomination. The district is comprised of ten communities covering most of Sioux County.

After the death of Representative Dwayne Alons of Hull in late 2014, Van Otterloo announced his candidacy to fill the seat left vacant. In a six-way race, Republicans selected John Kooiker of Boyden. Kooiker defeated Democratic candidate John Buntsma of Orange City and write-in candidate Dennis Wright in January, 2015. Kooiker announced in October (2015) that he would not seek re-election to the seat.

Van Otterloo says that it has been a privilege and an honor to serve the citizens of Rock Valley the last five years as Mayor and another 10 years as a councilman.  He says it is with great humility that he looks at the opportunity to represent an even larger constituency in Des Moines.

Candidates for state and federal offices have until March 18 to file for the primary election, which will be held on June 7th.  The general election will be November 8th.
