Rural Sibley Man Killed When Tractor Overturns, Trapping Him Underneath

Sibley, Iowa — A rural Sibley man is dead after the tractor he was driving rolled over on top of him in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, July 16th.

According to a release from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, they were called about 2:45 Tuesday morning to a tractor rollover accident in the 1400 mile of Polk Avenue northeast of Sibley. Authorities say when deputies arrived they discovered the operator of the tractor was trapped underneath the machine. The operator of the tractor, who deputies have indentified as 49-year-old Ned DeBoer of rural Sibley, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Osceola County authorities say the victim had been traveling north in the west ditch raking hay.  They say it appears that the tractor dropped it’s left front wheel into a culvert, causing the machine to roll over on top of the victim trapping him underneath.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Osceola County Ambulance, Jeddeloh Tow Service and the Sibley Fire Department.
