Russians Back At World Pork Expo After Long Absence

Des Moines, Iowa — In addition to pork producers from our area, from around the state, and around the world, there are some attendees at this year’s World Pork Expo that haven’t been there for quite some time.

National Pork Producers Council CEO Neil Dierks says trade is a major theme for this year’s event.

Dierks speculates Russian pork officials are probably here to learn about the latest technology as that country rebuilds its livestock herd.

Iowa is, by far, the top pork producing state in the U.S., and Dierks says it’s too soon to tell if the presence of Russia at World Pork Expo represents renewed interest in U.S. pork exports. The World Pork Expo runs through Friday at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
