Sanford Health Offering Two Medical Services In George

George, Iowa — Sanford Health is once again providing a couple of medical services in George.

In May of this year, the medical clinic in George changed hands. Sanford Health had been providing services at the clinic through the former Sanford Rock Rapids Hospital. But the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital Association’s board decided to turn services over to Avera Health when Sanford’s lease was up. A new hospital and clinic was built in Rock Rapids, and is now operated by Avera Health. Meanwhile, Sanford Health wasn’t going to give up the Rock Rapids market and built a clinic in northwest Rock Rapids.

But the George clinic, which continues to be owned by the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital Association, switched to Avera. So while Avera providers continue to be available in George, Sanford’s services were no longer available.

But, beginning this month, Sanford Health Rock Rapids Clinic is providing a couple of services in George — at the George Good Samaritan Center. Jill Funke with Sanford Health tells us that lab draws are available once each week for people that need to provide a blood sample for various health tests. She says foot and nail care services will also be available once each month at the Good Samaritan Society in George.

Funke says this arrangement was made possible by the affiliation established in 2018 between Sanford Health and Good Samaritan Society.

According to clinic director Laurie Jensen, “We are very excited to have the opportunity to offer lab draws and foot care services closer to home for our patients in the George area. This is just one of the positive benefits we have seen from the newly created relationship between Sanford Health and Good Samaritan Society.”

Patients are encouraged to call Sanford Health Rock Rapids at 712-472-3333 to schedule appointments for foot care and lab draw services.
