Sanford Sheldon To Thank Community With Summer Treat Drive-TONIGHT

Sheldon, Iowa –To thank the community for its support, Sanford Sheldon will host a drive-through event this evening offering free summer treats.

Rick Nordahl, CEO of Sanford Sheldon, tells us what summer treats will be given out.

(As said, “Well, we’re doing some kind of ice cream treat. I’m not sure what ice cream treat it is, but I know it will be worth your time. We’re going from six to eight or until we run out.”)

Nordahl tells us Sanford Sheldon is holding this event to thank the community for its support.

(As said, “It really is an appreciation for all the support we’ve gotten through the COVID, and the continuing COVID crisis that we’re in, and just thanking the community for their support and ongoing support of Sanford Sheldon.”)

In addition to the free summer treat, Sanford Sheldon will be hosting a car parade for their residents and patients. Nordahl talks about why they are having a parade.

(As said, “It was probably about a month ago, you know our residents aren’t allowed to have visitors because we want to keep COVID out of the facilities, so about a month or six weeks ago, we had a parade, and they really, really enjoyed it. Now that the weather’s just a little bit nicer, they can get out in the sun. We’re going to line them up on the sidewalk so their families can drive by and everybody getting an ice cream treat can wave at them too. They really appreciate the interaction with the people because they don’t get to see them often. They can do the Skype, and the internet, but you know, to see them in person driving by and keeping them safe, they appreciate that.”)

Nordahl talks about the where else the parade route runs.

(As said, “The parade route is really through the Village, and then by Fieldcrest, and the Christian Retirement Home too, so those folks can all get a wave at. They have all been cooped up a little bit long to. We’re just hoping it sparks a little interest in the community, give everybody a treat to say thank you for being with us, and then really get the residents a little revved up about seeing other people other than our staff and ourselves.”)

The parade will begin at 6:00 pm with line-up starting at 5:45 pm. Decorate your car and join them to lift the spirits of the residents and patients.

Each household should be in a separate car, attendees will be asked to remain inside their vehicle, and Nordahl asks that the person grabbing the ice cream treats to have a mask on as well.

(As said, “Anybody handing out the treats from here will have a mask and gloves on. If you’re in your vehicle, you will be far enough away, but if you have a mask on for the person that’s going to grab the ice cream treats, that’d be great. If not, we’ll try to do it quick and touchless, as touchless as possible, and everything will be wrapped, so we should be okay.”)

Sanford Sheldon does ask that community members should not attend if they have any COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, or shortness of breath.

The event runs from 6-8 p.m., or while supplies last, tonight at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center.
