Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Chamber and Development Corporation is publicizing the Highway 18 project and the Streetscape project in a press release to media in the region.
The release tells people around the region that the Downtown Streetscape Project means Downtown Sheldon will get a facelift. It notes that the project will include a five-block area of downtown Sheldon in which sidewalks will be replaced, streets replaced, bump-outs installed, decorative streetlights installed, and colored concrete at crosswalks and plantings will be installed.
The release also mentions that work has started in the widening of US Highway 18 from 24th Avenue through the New Sheldon Crossroads Industrial Park just east of the intersection of 4-lane Highway 60 & Highway 18. It says there will then be a complete overlay of the Highway 18 corridor through Sheldon from 2nd Avenue through the Crossroads Industrial Park creating a 3-lane corridor through the community of Sheldon.
The SCDC says that this is significant for the community of Sheldon as they are two of several projects scheduled for the summer of 2013 in which the City of Sheldon will invest over $9.2 million in capital projects. The capital projects include the Downtown Streetscape Project, Trilogy Housing Development (16 residential lots), Sheldon Crossing Housing Development (57 residential lots), a new Multi-Purpose Recreation Area, Highway 18 improvement project (widening and overlay), Country Club Road / East 9th Street Improvement Project, New Deep Well and numerous street repair and overlay projects.
City officials say if you have any questions you are welcome to call City Administrator Scott Wynja or SCDC Executive Director Mark Gaul.
