Sheldon, Iowa — Area sheep producers are invited to come learn about new research in sheep nutrition and how the Veterinary Feed Directive will affect them at the Feeding Ewes and Feedlot Lambs meeting on December 13th at the Pizza Ranch in Sheldon.
Beth Doran with ISU Extension and Outreach says that the meeting will start with a buffet dinner at 6:00 p.m., followed by a short business meeting conducted by Shane Kirschten, president of the Northwest Iowa Sheep Producers Association.
She says Morrical will lead off the meeting talking about his research.
She says that adding to the complexity, there are very few antibiotics approved for use in sheep.
Morrical and Travis Hawkins, veterinarian and sheep producer from Akron, IA, will visit about what producers must do to meet the VFD and what alternatives are available.
The sheep meeting is cooperatively sponsored by ISU Extension and Outreach, Northwest Iowa Sheep Producers Association, Iowa Sheep Industry Association, Iowa Sheep and Wool Promotion Board and Premier 1.
For more information, she says you can call the Sioux County Extension Office at 712-737-4230. Pre-registration ($3/person to cover meeting materials) is due Dec. 9 and may be mailed to ISU Extension and Outreach Sioux County, 400 Central Ave. NW, Suite 700, Orange City, IA 51041. The buffet dinner will be $11.12 per person, payable to NWISP at the Pizza Ranch.
