Sheldon Christmas Parade Of Lights Stream

Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon’s Christmas Parade of Lights will take place this Saturday, November 28th. But the original announced parade route has been extended. A lot.

Chamber Director Shantel Oostra talks about the reason for extending the parade route.

(As above) “The reason we decided to extend the route was due to the governor’s proclamation of no gathering, outdoors, of more than thirty people. So we really need to focus on NOT gathering downtown parade and we are going to do our very best  to bring the parade to you.”

Oostra says that, even prior to the governor’s new proclamation, they had been planning to extend the parade’s route.

(As above) “We were talking about extending it already before, because we wanted to bring it pasts our nursing homes and assisted and retirement living and also the Village Circle, to just bring a little cheeriness to those areas of town, also. And so we thought, ‘Well why not just keep extending it and bringing it to the town.”

She says the route was designed, in part, to take advantage of as many adjacent parking lots as possible, to allow people enjoy the parade without leaving their vehicles.

(As above) “A few (parking lot) options are: the high school, we’ll be going by the high school so you can park in their lot; the old Fantasia building, you can park in their lot; you could park here at the Community Building; also, behind Northwestern Bank there’s parking behind there. We’ll be taking a pretty good extension of Old Highway 60 and there’s several smaller parking lots along that route where you could park and watch the parade. But we are asking that people DO NOT exit their vehicles to watch the parade. Stay nice and toasty warm in your vehicle with the heat on.”

She says no matter where you park, please do NOT exit your vehicle to watch the parade.

(As above) “Park on the side streets, park in the parking lots, watch from your front porch with a cup of hot cocoa if you’d like, but we do ask that you don’t gather downtown and we do ask that you don’t exit your vehicle. (And) PLEASE don’t park along the parade route, we need to have enough space for our parade entries to be able to make the roadways and the turns.”

Saturday’s parade will include the Parade of Lights Jeep Parade, which is sponsored by Ron Drenkow Motors and KIWA Radio. Entries in the Jeep Parade will be judged with winners receiving Jeep-themed prizes from Drenkow’s.

If you can’t make the parade in person, there will be live video available on our website, kiwaradio.com.
