Sheldon City Council To Again Take Up Housing Incentive And SCDC Relationship Issues

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council will meet in regular session this Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 416 9th Street in Sheldon, across the street south of KIWA Radio.

During the meeting, Mayor Greg Geels will swear-in Chief of Police Eric Meinecke.

Among items on the consent agenda are the minutes from the previous meeting, the list of claims, some financial reports, approval of a liquor license renewal for Brady’s Pub, approval of a temporary wine permit for Sweet Puddle Jumpers, approval of an urban renewal report, approval of a SCAT applicant, approval of an SCDC request for December events, the authorization of the release of TIF revenues for the Kwik Star property, a resolution approving fire service fees, one authorizing “no parking” signs on the south side of the Sheldon Crossing residential area, the approval of the annual VNU fireworks display (early due to pending price increases), and a resolution authorizing advancement of costs for an urban renewal project at the outdoor pool, due to fixes that can’t wait. These will all be approved (or denied) by one motion unless a council member requests one or more items be voted on separately.

In old business, the council will again take up the issues of the Sheldon Crossing Housing Incentive and the council’s relationship with the SCDC.

Under new business, the council plans to talk about a grant agreement with Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC) for a partnership with the NCC Rec Department and the Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center (LLRC).

The council will also have the third reading and possibly make a decision on the update of the 5-year Capital Improvement Plan.
