Sheldon City-Wide Clean-Up Week Moved To September This Year

Sheldon, Iowa — At their regular meeting Wednesday afternoon the Sheldon City Council voted to hold the annual City-Wide Clean-Up Week in September this year.

Traditionally, Clean-Up Week has been held in the Spring, but last year, due to the coronavirus, it was moved to September. City officials suggested to the Council that it be held in September again this year. Some council members reported that they had been approached by citizens asking the event be held in the spring, but the Council ultimately voted to move it to September.

In other news from the Sheldon City Council, they accepted the low bid for the Sanitary Sewer Lining Project at Wednesday’s meeting. Beck Engineering, the firm hired by the City for this project had estimated the cost of the project to be $94,054. Instead, the actual bid accepted by the council at Wednesday’s meeting was from HydroKlean, in the amount of $89,381.25, nearly $5,000 below the engineer’s estimate. Two other companies submitted bids for the project, coming in a $106,825 and $93,454 respectively.

In other action, the Council approved a resolution promoting two Sheldon Police Officers from the rank of Patrolman to Sergeant. Officer David Dykstra and Officer Todd Wood’s promotions will become effective March 11th. They also approved the appointment of Daniel Dees to the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team and accepted the resignation of Kim Hengeveld from the Sheldon Library Board.

The next meeting for the Sheldon City Council will be Wednesday March 10th, when they’ll meet in special session.
