Sheldon Continues To Be Under Water Watch Enacted In 2021

Sheldon, Iowa — Some communities in northwest Iowa have decided the water situation warrants additional water watches or warnings for their communities. But in Sheldon, the voluntary water watch from LAST year remains in effect.

Sheldon Public Works Superintendent Todd Uhl tells us about it.

Uhl says that according to some official sources, the drought is getting worse.

Uhl says there are some ways you can help to make sure that restrictions don’t become mandatory and have penalties attached.

Uhl says city officials don’t have any plans to expand water availability except for the connection to the Lewis & Clark Water System in a year or two.

Uhl says when connected to Lewis & Clark, Sheldon will be able to use 1.3 million gallons per day of that water. After the expansion, Sheldon has spoken for an additional 756,000 per day. But that expansion will probably take at least a decade, pushing it into the mid-2030s.
