Sheldon, Iowa — In a relatively brief meeting Wednesday, the Sheldon City Council approved a change in zoning, amended the Airport five year Capital Improvement Plan and approved the appointment of a student EMA applicant.
The zoning vote approved the ordinance that will change the Sheldon Community School property between the High School and Highway 18 from Residential Multiple to Arterial Commercial. This move was made to comply with Iowa Department of Transportation rules. The I-DOT had complained that the listing of business names on the school’s electronic sign along the highway was not allowed on land zoned Residential Multiple.
The Airport five year Capital Improvement Plan was amended to include a payloader, snowblower and blade at a cost of $425-thousand, ninety percent of which will be paid by the FAA, with the city paying the remaining ten percent.
The Council also approved pay estimate number 5 on the Airport Hangar project, which is covered by insurance. Public works director Todd Uhl reported that the work on that project is ‘basically done’.
The Council also approved the application of Devon Wolthuizen to join the EMA as a student, and set November 16th as the date for a public hearing on the City’s five year Capital Improvement Plan.
