UPDATE: Sheldon Fire Company Called To Garage Fire

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Fire Company responded to the call of a garage on fire about 5:40 Wednesday evening.

The scene of the blaze was a garage at 814 – 7th Avenue in Sheldon. Assistant Fire Chief Randy Harms tells KIWA the blaze was extinguished with water and foam. He says siding was damaged on a nearby house, and a fiber optic cable, belonging to HTC Communications, was damaged.

Sources say the damage to the fiber optic cable left residents within a few blocks of the fire scene without cable TV, or internet services for a time. Service was restored within a couple of hours.

KIWA has learned that someone was working on a car inside that garage, when it caught fire.
