Sheldon Schools Investigating Turf Surface For Football Field

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Community School District is looking at the possibility of a new surface for the Orab Football Field.

Sheldon Superintendent Cory Myers says they’re investigating the possibility of converting the playing surface from grass to turf.

Myer says one of the beneficiaries of a turf field would be the Sheldon/Sibley Ocheyedan soccer program.

In addition, Myer says a turf surface would make the field more conducive for the annual State Marching Band competition.

He stresses that the topic is in the very preliminary investigative phase.

The Sheldon Community Schools have previously entered into partnership with other entities for collaborative development of athletic facilities. A partnership with the City of Sheldon resulted in the new athletic fields located adjacent to Highway 18 near the Sheldon Middle School, a collaboration that Myer describes as a very successful collaboration, and a win-win for both the school system and the city.
