Sheldon’s New Police K-9 & His Officer Partner Are Halfway Through Training

Sheldon, Iowa — Training is about halfway complete for the Sheldon Police Department’s new 4-legged officer and his 2-legged partner.

Officer Eric Meineke and his police dog K-9 Balin are six weeks into the twelve week course, which is held in the twin cities area. KIWA caught up with Officer Meineke Sunday evening at his Minneapolis area hotel, and asked him about the training he and his dog had gone through during the first half of their training.

Meineke told us about an apprehension drill that he and K-9 Balin took part in last week.

He says not only are he and Balin together all day every day, but he also has his partner as a roommate in his hotel at night.

Meineke says he expects the next six weeks to proceed much like the first, with more things added to the training regimen each week.

Meineke says Balin is a great animal, and he predicts that Sheldon’s first K-9 officer will do a very good job. Officer Meineke and his K-9 partner, Balin, are expected to hit the streets of Sheldon around the 1st of July.
