Sioux County Sheriff Dog Does Well In Contest

Ida Grove, Iowa — One of the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office’s police dogs was certified and competed in a contest recently.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that on August 27th through 29th, Deputy Justin De Bruin and his canine partner, Sonny, certified and competed in the annual United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) Patrol Dog Trials.

This year, the trials were held in Ida Grove, and were hosted by the Ida County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office says patrol dog trials consist of obedience, agilities, article search, suspect search and criminal apprehension with and without gunfire scenarios.

The sheriff’s office says Sonny did quite well. Out of a total of 32 law enforcement agency canine teams from Iowa and Minnesota attending, De Bruin and Sonny placed sixth overall and placed third in the criminal apprehension phase.

Capt. Jamison Van Voorst says that the Sheriff’s Office is very proud of Deputy De Bruin’s hard work and dedication with Sonny. He says they make a great team. Van Voorst says the sheriff’s office also wants the citizens of Sioux County to know what an important asset De Bruin and Sonny are for the county’s public safety.
