Sioux County, Iowa — The COVID-19 virus, and the steps taken to try and arrest its spread, have caused changes in the way many different types of business are conducted. One of those changes is in the way Sheriff’s Offices are handling Permits to Carry Weapons and Permits To Acquire Weapons.
Captain Jamie Van Voorst is a deputy with the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, and he says their office has begun accepting permit applications online from residents of Sioux County.
(As above) “What we’ve done is we have partnered with the vendor Permitium, which has allowed us the ability to issue all weapons permit applications online, that also includes renewals and applications for a permit to acquire pistols or revolvers.”
Captain Van Voorst says this removes the need to visit the Sheriff’s Office to apply for permits to acquire or carry.
(As Above) “We have made it completely so that people don’t have to come into our business lobby right now. With the COVID-19 going on we’ve shut that down, but the people who wish to still do the weapon permit issues can now do that online by going to our website.”
He says the online process will continue after the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, and will streamline the process, freeing up Sheriff’s Office personnel to complete other duties.
(As above) “It just streamlined everything, and it’s not only now during the COVID-19 concerns where we didn’t want people having, you know, physical contact wherever possible. This allows that. Once that passes it’s going to free up our our business office staff so that they’re not tied up with three four or five people sometimes waiting in line.”
