Spencer, Iowa — An orthopedic surgeon from Spencer is set to testify at a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday morning on the challenges of international adoption.
Dr. Rick Wilkerson of Spencer tells how his committee testimony came about.
He says that international adoptions can prove to be much more complicated than U.S. adoptions.
Dr. Wilkerson tells us about his experience with adopting a child from Cambodia.
He says the experience adopting a Haitian child was completely different.
Wednesday’s hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee is designed to coincide with National Adoption Month, and is expected to highlight the stories of success in meeting the challenges of international adoptions.
