Spencer Man Gets Eight Years In Federal Prison On Meth Conviction

Sioux City, Iowa — A Spencer man has received an eight-year prison term on a meth conviction.

According to the US Attorney’s Office, 35-year-old Kenneth Alan Block of Spencer was sentenced on December 6, 2022, in federal court in Sioux City, to eight years in federal prison.

They tell us that on July 19, 2022, Block pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. Evidence at the plea and sentencing hearings showed that from February through September of 2021, Block and others distributed at least 2.5 kilograms of methamphetamine in the Spencer area. (That’s at least 2500 individual doses) In addition, on September 29, 2021, Block was found with approximately 170 grams of ice methamphetamine after giving consent to search his car.

Sentencing was held before United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand. Block was sentenced to 96 months in federal prison and he must serve a four-year term of supervised release following imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick T. Greenwood and was investigated by the Spencer Police Department, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa Great Lakes Task Force, the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and the Iowa DCI Laboratory.
