Start The New Year Right, Don’t Drink And Drive

Northwest Iowa — There are many ways to celebrate bringing in the New Year this Saturday, December 31st, but the choices a person makes can have bad consequences.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper Kevin Krull says December is known as National Impaired Driving Awareness Month. In December alone accidents go up at least 50 percent.

He says in northwest Iowa weather does play a hand in some of these accidents, getting behind the wheel and driving drunk plays a hand as well.

We all know about the weather we received during Christmas week. Krull says that weather was bad enough to drive in while not impaired.

Krull says that if anyone chooses to drink at a celebration they should do it with friends.

And if you are the designated driver, Krull has a message for you.

He says if you are drinking alone and drink too much, everyone has that friend they can call.

Krull says he asks that when coming up with a New Years resolution consider your driving.

Krull wanted to add one thing.

On December 31st remember not to drink too much and remember to have a designated driver who can make sure you get home safely.
