Sheldon, Iowa — Prospective candidates for city government offices are scrambling today, trying to get a sufficient number of signatures to get their names on the November municipal election ballot.
Each city in the KIWA listening area has some city government seats up for grabs this November, and today is the deadline for people seeking those offices to file their nomination petitions, with their City Clerk, by 5:oo this afternoon.
In Sheldon, candidates are required to gather twenty-five signatures on their nominatin petitions to qualify to have their name on the ballot. In most other cities in O’Brien County, just ten signatures are required.
The term for Sheldon’s Mayor, Tricia Meendering, as well as Ward 3 Councilman Randy Fonkert, and At-Large Councilman Greg Sawyer are all up for election this year.
The 2017 municipal elections will be held Tuesday, November 7th.
