Trooper: Many People Would Help A Drunk Or High Friend Find A Safe Ride

Northwest Iowa — New Year’s Eve has the reputation of being one of the worst nights for drunk driving.

Iowa State Patrol Troopers, such as Trooper spokesman Kevin Krull, are reminding people that if alcohol is part of your New Year’s Eve plan — plan a sober ride. He says there are many different ways to do it. If you’re going to party at a friend’s house, you could plan to stay where you are and spend the night. You could plan to take a taxi or an Uber. You could use the tried and true designated driver. And he says, to borrow a term from a TV game show, you can always “phone a friend,” or in many cases, a relative, who would much rather help you get home than have to deal with tragic news.

And when it comes right down to it, most people you know would probably give or find you a ride.

Krull says, as always, there are a few other things to keep in mind if you’re going to be on the roads.

One more thing — especially since it happens in the winter — while it doesn’t sound too bad for New Year’s Eve, watch the weather and the road conditions.
