UDMO Seeks Donations Of Children’s Winter Gear

O’Brien County, Iowa — It’s fall in northwest Iowa and an O’Brien County agency that assists families in need is cranking up their annual drive to get cold-weather gear for kids.

Brenda Collier of O’Brien County’s Upper Des Moines Opportunity office says the agency’s Coats for Kids Drive is underway.

(As above) “Our Coats for Kids program helps us keep kids warm by providing them warm winter coats and snow pants. The kids can’t go on the playground unless they have their snow pants and winter gear, so we provide a coat and hats and gloves and snow pants, if available, for our children in the community.”

Collier says right now UDMO is completely out of snow pants.

(As above) “So right now we are looking for winter coats and snow pants. We are completely out of snow pants for the kids, so we’re in need of snow pants. And we will take gently used, clean winter gear here at our office in Primghar.”

She talks about what O’Brien County families in need must do to get get winter gear for their kids from UDMO.

(As above) “They can call me at 712-957-1023. This is an income-based program, so if they’ve never been in my office, they’ll need to bring in proof of income and proof of address.”

Collier says all sizes of children’s winter gear is needed and donations are greatly appreciated. She called the UDMO Coats for Kids program a great opportunity for O’Brien County families in need.
