Upper Des Moines Food Pantry In Critical Need

Primghar, Iowa — The cupboards at the Upper Des Moines Food Pantry in Primghar are almost completely bare — not good news during the holidays.

That’s from Brenda Collier with Upper Des Moines Opportunity in Primghar. She tells us the need is great at this time.

She says you can drop off donations at their office in Primghar Monday through Friday from 8 to 4. But you can also drop of donations at O’Brien County Implement in Sheldon. Collier tells us that while food donations are the best because the staff’s time to grocery shop is limited, cash or check donations are also welcome.

The list of needed items keeps changing, so for an updated list, you can call Upper Des Moines at 712-957-1023. But at last report, they were in need of these food items:

· Cereal
· Peanut butter/jelly
· Meats
· Spaghetti sauces
· Hamburger helpers
· Pancake mixes/syrups
· Veggies/fruit
· Instant potatoes
· Cheese/eggs
· Soups

Collier reminds us that they do have refrigerators and freezers at Upper Des Moines, so donations are not limited to canned and boxed items. She says not only do they run a food pantry, but they also supply other needed items for needy folks. And at last report, they could use several items in that department as well:

· Toilet paper
· Paper towels
· Laundry soap
· Shampoo
· Conditioner
· Bath wash
· Tooth paste
· Denture cleaner
· Denture paste
· Dish soap
· Toilet bowl cleaner
· Cleaning sprays

Upper Des Moines is also in the middle of their holiday “Adopt-A-Family” program, says Collier. She says there are also families that need to be adopted yet. Click here for the list.
