Sheldon, Iowa — While many people think of the day after Thanksgiving as “Black Friday”, the day when the Christmas shopping season begins in earnest, one Sheldon institution marks it by beginning their annual Christmas light display extravaganza.
Lisa Johnson is Director of Development at Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon, and she says trips to view the Village lighting display have become a tradition for many area families.
Johnson says the Village Christmas lighting display replaced the Living Nativity that the Village used to present each year.
She says the Village Northwest Christmas lighting display is actually made up of several separate displays around the Village grounds.
Each lighting display is set to operate in sync with Christmas music that is played over a different FM radio frequency, an idea Johnson says enhances the viewer’s experience.
She says the annual Christmas lighting display is the Village’s Christmas gift to the people in the area.
Johnson says the Village Northwest Unlimited Christmas lighting display will begin running Friday night at dusk.
So that everyone can enjoy the Village Northwest Unlimited Christmas light display, you’re asked to turn your vehicle’s headlights off, and use just your parking lights when you enter the Village grounds to see the exhibition.
