Marshall, Minnesota — You probably remember many years of the familiar yellow freezer truck in your neighborhood. You might even be a customer. But the company that used to be Schwan’s and had recently changed it’s name to “Yelloh,” has announced they are closing for good.
In a statement, Yelloh officials say they will cease all operations in November 2024, closing out a storied 72-year history as a Minnesota pioneer in the food home-delivery market. Founded in Marshall, Minnesota, where it still maintains a headquarters, the company grew to a nationwide frozen food delivery leader with the country’s largest fleet of freezer trucks.
Since its founding in 1952, Yelloh made high-quality frozen meals, foods, treats, and ice cream accessible to American homes by delivering products to neighborhood doorsteps with its fleet of iconic yellow trucks. The company set itself apart with the friendly, trusting relationships it built between customers and team members, some of which lasted for decades.
The company cited multiple insurmountable business challenges for the decision, including economic and market forces, as well as changing consumer lifestyles. Their last day will be November 8.
The Schwan family spun off the commercial end of their company and sold off the iconic Schwan’s name in 2022, but kept the home delivery part of their operations, formerly known as Schwan’s Home Service, and rebranded that as Yelloh (spelled with an “h” at the end instead of a “w”) in 2022. That’s the company that’s ceasing operations.
The remaining Schwan’s Company (now a subsidiary of a South Korean company) continues to be widely known for its consumer brands, including Freschetta Pizza, Tony’s Frozen Pizza, Mrs. Smith’s Pies, Edwards Frozen Pies, Pagoda Egg Rolls, and Red Baron Pizza. The company also sells products to the food-service industry.
