Barn Damaged In Fire Near Granville

Granville, Iowa — A barn was damaged in a fire on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, near Granville.

According to Granville Fire Chief Karl Kellen, at about 4:20 p.m., the Granville Fire Department was called to the report of a barn smoldering at 4621 Nettle Avenue, four miles east of Granville.

The chief says the fire department saw flames from the side of the old barn as they approached the scene. He says they started by spraying water on the outside of the building and then did some overhaul of the interior.

Kellen says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by the Paullina and Hospers fire departments and the Granville Ambulance Service.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be electrical in nature.

Chief Kellen reports that there was minor damage to the property.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour and a half.
