Bird Flu Detected in Sioux County Flock

Sioux County, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship says a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza has been detected in a flock of commercial layer chickens in Sioux County. It’s the fourth detection of the virus in Iowa within poultry for 2024 and is the first detection in the state since June.

Governor Kim Reynolds has issued a disaster proclamation for Sioux County as a result. It allows state resources to assist with tracking and monitoring, rapid detection, containment, disposal and disinfection. The proclamation also waives regulatory provisions on commercial vehicles responding to affected sites.
