Brunsville, Iowa — One person is dead after a fiery crash in rural Plymouth County Wednesday night.
The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office tells us that at approximately 7:20 p.m., they received a report of a field fire near a rural intersection two miles northwest of Brunsville. When officials arrived at the scene, A pickup truck was located, fully engulfed in flames.
They say that during the recovery operation, a subject was discovered deceased in the driver’s seat. An investigation indicates that the driver of the pickup left the roadway and traveled for some distance in the ditch before getting stuck on the roadway embankment. The vehicle then started on fire. For unknown reasons, the driver was unable to escape the vehicle, says the sheriff’s office.
They tell us the vehicle was totally destroyed.
The body of the driver was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny to determine identity. The Sheriffs Office was assisted by Le Mars Fire Rescue and the Plymouth County Medical Examiner. The crash remains under investigation.
