Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council met in regular session on Wednesday, June 18th, 2025 in the City Hall Council Chambers at the Sheldon Community Services Center, downtown.
By approving the consent agenda, council members approved the minutes from the previous meeting; the list of claims; financial reports; the authorization of a temporary closure of the east end of an alley near First Reformed Church for Vacation Bible School there July 6th through the 9th; the approval of SCAT applicant Dylan Marks; the approval of city cigarette permits for the next fiscal year; the approval of the renewal of the Eagles’ Club liquor license; wine permits for “Top Of Iowa Lucky Wife; LLC for both August 12-16 and Celebration Days; the authorization of fiscal year-end bill pay if necessary; the mayor’s reappointments to the Board of Adjustment, the library board, and the Museum Board of Trustees; resolutions approving the hiring of Pavilion Events Coordinator Kayla Leikvold and Parks & Recreation Director, Alex Laughlin, a resolution setting wages and benefits; SCDC 2025 events, a pay applicaiton for the Upper Story 9th Street Project; and the acceptance of the resignation of Recreation Coordinator Evan Olesen, effective August 7th, 2025.
In old business, Cindy Harpenau of Mid-Sioux Opportunity gave a report and requested funding. Harpenau says that while Mid-Sioux was always the community action agency for the part of Sheldon in Sioux County, Mid-Sioux is now running more programs in O’Brien County, such as the WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program. She requested $1000 in funding, up from $250 in previous years, and that funding request was approved.
The third readings of the water and sewer ordinances were held, and the ordinances were approved. The third reading of the stormwater ordinance was tabled until the next meeting.
The council also heard a fee increase request from De Kruif Sanitation, which will appear at a future meeting.
The city’s financial policy was approved, as was the Airport Master Plan.
The council decided to table the rezoning of the property at 415 West Park Street.
The council did not consider the approval of a quote for Crossroads Pavilion storage, as the matter was not ready by meeting time.
