George, Iowa — This is National Fire Prevention Week. Most of the fire departments in northwest Iowa are doing educational events either this week or within a few days of this week to remind people of all ages about fire safety.
George Fire Chief Bill Sprock says they do such an activity, but it’ll be next week.
When he says “the two have combined now,” he’s talking about all elementary students in both the George and Little Rock areas being bussed to Little Rock for elementary school now. He says when they go to the daycare, they show kids what a firefighter looks like in-uniform so they know not to be afraid if they encounter one in a fire situation. He tells us what they as a fire department have planned at the Trunk-Or-Treat event on October 19th.
Sprock gives us some fire prevention tips.
He says people also need to be safe with extension cords.
He tells us about the theme this year.
We talked with Sheldon Fire Chief Brad Hindt this week too, and he echoes Chief Sprock’s thoughts about smoke alarms.
As if to underscore the need for smoke alarms, the Sheldon Fire Company responded to a house fire early Thursday morning in which there were no working smoke alarms.
