Sioux Center, Iowa — One person has died as the result of an accident west of Sioux Center.
According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at the intersection of 390th Street and Garfield Avenue, three miles west of Sioux Center on Wednesday morning, December 11, 2024 just before 5:25 a.m.
Two vehicles were involved and they tell us it is a joint accident investigation between the sheriff’s office and the Iowa State Patrol.
Sheriff’s officials tell us a Honda Fit was traveling northbound on Garfield Avenue and a Chevrolet Impala was traveling eastbound on 390th Street when the driver of the Honda allegedly failed to stop for the stop sign at 390th Street and entered the intersection, causing the vehicles to collide.
A passenger in the Honda died at the scene as a result of their injuries. Both drivers and three passengers in the vehicles were transported to Sioux Center Health for treatment of their injuries. Two of those passengers were later flown to Mercy Hospital in Sioux City and Avera McKennan University Health Center in Sioux Falls for further medical attention.
Assisting the sheriff’s office and Iowa State Patrol with emergency response were the Sioux Center Police Department, Sioux Center Fire Department, and ambulance services from Sioux Center and Ireton.
Names are being withheld at this time pending notification of family. The Sheriff’s Office says the accident remains under investigation.
