One Taken To Hospital After Three-Car Chain-Reaction Crash In Rock Valley

Rock Valley, Iowa– A Rock Valley man was taken to the hospital after an accident in Rock Valley early on Sunday, September 29, 2024.

The Rock Valley Police Department reports that at about 2:10 a.m., 22-year-old Jairo Mendoza Lopez of Rock Valley was driving a 2013 Kia eastbound on 14th Street in Rock Valley.

The report says that Mendoza Lopez struck the rear end of a 2014 Jeep. The Jeep was unoccupied and legally parked facing east. After the initial collision, the Jeep then struck the rear end of a legally-parked 2014 Chrysler minivan, pushing it forward before coming to rest near the intersection of 14th Street and 21st Avenue. Mendoza Lopez’s Kia rolled and rested on the passenger side after striking the Jeep.

The Rock Valley Ambulance took Mendoza Lopez to Hegg Health Center Hospital.

All three vehicles are considered totaled.

The Rock Valley Fire Department assisted with fuel cleanup as the gas tank of the Jeep was punctured as a result of being struck by Mendoza Lopez’s Kia. K & J Towing towed all vehicles from the scene. The accident remains under investigation and police say alcohol is believed to have been a factor.
